local bees, local honey, local people

The Bay Area Bee Company makes local honey and happy bees. We have hives all over the Bay Area and make small local batches for each of our neighborhoods.

Our honey tastes like the place it's from and our bees are a vital part of our shared ecosystem.

Our honey, pollen and honeycomb can be found all over the Bay at our favorite stores like Rainbow Grocery, Berkeley Natural, Bi Rite, Good Earth, El Cerrito Natural, Farmer Joe's and many more...

FAQ

  • Yes! Raw honey maintains its healthful nutrients even when it crystallizes. It just takes a little effort to pull out a nice spoonful.

To prevent your honey from crystallizing, store it in a lukewarm pantry. With crystallization, it’s all about the temperature: the colder it gets, the more likely the honey will crystallize.

If you want to liquidate your already-crystallized honey, place the jar in hot water and gently warm for a few minutes.

  • We keep our bees in locations all around the Bay Area: from Santa Clara to Santa Rosa, we have hives in backyards, private pasture land, and more prominent urban locations.

  • We do not filter our honey. It is raw, and we strain it with cheesecloth.

  • Bees travel in a radius of up to 3 miles. In urban beekeeping, bees pollinate a wide variety of flowers. Because we can’t tell the bees where to go, it’s nearly impossible to have 100% organic honey.

  • Yes! Our glass jars are 100% recyclable. Even better than that, you can reuse them. We drink milk, tea, and coffee out of our glass jars. We also use them for holding plants and writing utensils. We’d love to hear creative ways you find for reuse!

  • There’s one way to find out! Send us a message, and we will assess your property’s suitability for bees. If it works out, your neighborhood will bloom.

  • If it’s a honeybee hive and accessible (we don’t cut open houses or walls), we may be able to help. We do not exterminate bees and do not deal with other types of hives (such as wasps and hornets).
